After the murder of Chaney hack his father Tom in hand, 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross sets to catch the killer. To aid her, she hires tough U.S. Marshal she can find, a man with True Grit, Reuben J. Cogburn Rooster. Mattie insists on accompanying Cogburn, whose drinking, sloth, and generally immoral character it does not lend credence to. Against his will, he joins him on his journey through the Indian Nations in search of Chaney. They are connected by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, who wants Chaney for his own purposes. Unlikely trio danger and surprises on the journey, and each has its grit tested.
